A BIT OF HISTORY

The Parson Russell Terrier, said to be the first wire fox terrier, was developed in England by Rev. John Russell in the 1800's. Parson Russell's terriers were bred to hunt fox with foxhounds and various other quarry. The terrier was unique – he had the substance and length of leg to follow foxhounds across the countryside and yet be flexible in his body so he could follow and bolt the fox from below ground. The Parson remains a true working terrier today and is used extensively throughout the world for his original purpose.
